The People's Party (Hellonian: Volksvlok, Ellashian: Folksflock) is a socialist and feminist political party in Hellona. The party split from the Workers' Party of Hellona in 1799, together with the Social Democrats and the Labour Party, as the Communist Party of Hellona and became the People's Party in 1847.
It's the most left-wing party in mainstream Hellonian politics and has been an important party on the Hellonian left for over 50 years. It opposes all privatisation and advocates increased public expenditure. Current party leader is Willem Aalberg. It's currently a member of government, also called the Social Alliance.
History
While traditional Liberal parties were the leading parties in early modern Hellonian history, the horrid working conditions during the early industralisation of Hellona led to the rise of Socialist, Communist and other leftist organisations and parties. In 1799 the Workers' Party of Hellona was created, which later split into the Social Democrats, the Communist Party, the current People's Party, and the lesser-known Hellonian Labour Party. Together with the Social Democrats, it entered its first government in 1840.
Ideology
Although the party started out as a Communist party, it has slowly moved away from its Communist roots and moved more to a general Democratic Socialist platform. It's still however the most left-wing party in the current Rijksdag.
