During the 90-hour battle before the force was relieved, Antón repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire while personally leading his men in three separate counterattacks. Following this, Antón was successful in organizing his men and holding open a landing zone allowing for the evacuation of wounded personnel, and later initiating parley with the enemy forces to allow medical evacuation helicopters to remove several severally wounded personnel. During this action, Antón was wounded no less than 5 times by enemy fire. The conflict ended when a ceasefire was declared between the Aisling and Notreceauen forces. For these actions, Antón was awarded the Gold Sabre of Valor, the nations third-highest combat military honor
