Background

In 1948 members of the Malgravean Armed Forces defected and founded the Malgravean Patriotic Front, a far-right organisation dedicated to overthrowing the current Malgravean government. At the time it was believed that the government collapse within days or weeks, however factional infighting over the future of the organisation led to the group virtually disappearing with only a few hit and run attacks reported over the next ten years.

In the late 1950's the Malgravean government had started expanding towards the southern regions of the country and had established several promising industrial centres. At the same time, the Malgravean Patriotic Front had settled its internal disputes and started a broad campaign of offensives against Malgravean settlements in this region. Responding to the crisis the Malgravean government sent forces of the Territorial Defence Force to counter the threat, however, a lack of heavy equipment and poor logistical supplies led to heavy losses during these defensive campaigns and in 1962 the Territorial Defence Force officially went on strike.

After two years of strike action, the Territorial Defence Force settled with the government, but the dispute had left its mark and when the Malgravean Patriotic Front launched an offensive operation against the newly formed city of Pakosc it found no TDF forces present and quickly encircled the city.

Operation

In early of 1964 the Special Investigative Service learned that an offensive operation was underway near the city of Pakosc and recommended that a force of the Territorial Defence Force and Royal Marines be sent to prevent the city falling into enemy hands. At the time, however, the government was fearful of future strike action from the TDF and instead ordered that the city be evacuated.

Despite being ordered to evacuate the 2nd Southern Training Regiment refused and instead started preparations to defend the city, at the same time the Pakosc Academy held an emergency meeting and decided to allow volunteers from the student population to form an emergency Student Division to assist the 2nd Southern Training Regiment, utilising equipment from abandoned TDF bases in the city.
