History

Creation

The Asceoloth, like all other creatures originating from Mongo, were created by Tao/Atol, and thus are known as Atol/Tao’ic species. Due to his anti-magical nature, Asceoloths, like all other Mongonoids, have a slightly anti-magical “taint”, although for most species, including standard Asceoloths, it is so negligible that most magic users would feel only a slightly discomfort.

Time on Sparkalia

Aceoloths were introduced to the sparkalian waters by the Mongon settlers of what would become the domain several centuries past. At the time the first Asceoloths released were fairly small being released as calves. Over the years, they began to reproduce and spread as the waters quickly became irradiated near the Domain’s holdings. However, their dependence on radiation has limited their practical habitat, and thus they have not expanded very far.

Habitat

The habitat of the Asceoloth is the sea, though they have no care between fresh and saltwater. What they care for is radiation, for it is their source of energy, and thus without it they starve. Therefore they are willing to inhabit almost any body of water that is relatively clean, irradiated, and is large enough to sustain them.

Biology

Life and Span

An Asceoloth never stops growing, nor does it perish of old age. They are born alone, never with any siblings, from the same mother, and take decades to reach maturity. A male-female Asceoloth pairing is for life, and often both of their lives, with some being known to refuse to find another mate, or at least put off such a thing for decades, once their original one perishes. Though their continuous growth prevents whether or not the male or female Asceloth is the larger one, since males grow slightly larger for their age, and due to their pairing methods, the male is usually larger. The calf, as young Asceoloths are known as, hug close to the bodies of their mothers. The male Asceoloth generally swims deeper, yet stays close by, watching for potential threats to his calf, mate, or even himself.

Asceoloths reach “maturity” at around the age of fifty. The oldest known Asceoloths are Apater(male) and Konego(female), both having been born on Mongo, and thus their true ages are not known.

Since Asceoloths do not die of old age, the majority of their deaths come first from predators when they are young. Requiring radiation to “feed” on, starvation can occur easily if they are placed in a body of water that is uncontaminated. However, they take a long time to occur, upwards of a year, though throughout the whole period they begin to weaken.

Consumption

Like all other Mongonoids, the Asceoloth never consumes “food.” Instead they are required to both drink water and consume radiation. Their bodies are able to process the salt out of salt water, so that they can drink it without becoming dehydrated. They can either absorb the radiation, which is slower, or they can acquire it from the water which they drink, which is the primary method that the Asceoloth pursue. Their teeth are large, but the front of them are covered in a material similar to the baleen of whales. However, these “Filter” teeth serve a reverse purpose, preventing creatures entering their mouths while the Asceoloth drinks.
