The Gulf of Vasconia is an ocean basin and marginal sea in the Western Atlantic region. It is bordered by the Southern Low Countries, Laneria, Kartlis, Snefaldia, South Epheron, Zrepzunia, Tehua, Pantocratorian Ambara, Marlund, the Caldan Union, Providenia, and the Knootian and Braslander Gulf Islands. It took shape approximately 200 million years ago as the region's tectonic plates shifted. The gulf has a sprawling shape, exiting out to the ocean both between Ambara and Epheron and between Ambara and Vasconia. The gulf experiences small tidal ranges and beaches along its shores are great for swimming and diving while making for poor surfing. A little more than half of the gulf is part of the continental shelf with deeper waters in the very center. The gulf is one of the most important offshore petroleum production areas in the region, with rigs associated with the Caldan Union, Laneria, Tehua, and Knootoss. This has sometimes led to environmental difficulties.
