Shifts from Classical Yathanese

  • The (/ɣ/) became its own separate sound in late classical Yathanese, which evolved into the (/χ/). In the Moghjari dialect, its preserved an allophone of (/χ/)
  • The (/g/)—along with its labialized counterpart—underwent fortition, becoming the (/q/).
  • The (/c/) merged with the (/ʃ/).
  • The retroflex consonants became palatalized (ʂ > ɕ, ʐ > ʑ, ʈ > ɟ)

Language

Classical Yathanese refers to the pre-Wahushite Yathanese language (approximately 300 years before the establishment of Neiriz).

Language

Proto-Tawhanic is the (reconstructed & hypothesized) mother language of all the Tawhanic languages. Its phonology and morphology is mostly based off of the Halamite language, a Tawhanic language spoken by the Halamite peoples who predominantly live behind and around the Khāthkhay mountains. Due to their isolated area and limited interaction with the rest of the world, their language managed to preserve most of the evident proto-Tawhanic phonemes.

  • 'Tesim' means 'Capital' in Yathanese, Palmyrian and Mancha. In Halamite, a capital is called 'Tesim Kanh' which literally means 'Middle city'. On the contrary, *nrkhʾ means 'settlement' in Halamite.
  • The Proto-Tawhanic word for 'Clay' became the verb 'to mold' or 'to shape' in Halamite, Yathanese and Palmyrian. While in Mancha, it became related to pottery.
  • *dwl means 'To count' in PTH, 'To measure/weigh' in Halamite, strictly 'To weigh' in Yathanese, Palmyrian and Mancha.
