The Mitsuna Type 70 "Hayate II" is a Dayashinese carrier-capable supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail, all-weather-capable variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft. The Hayate II was developed for the Dayashinese Ministry of Defence's General Experimental Fighter (GXF) programme, seeking a multi-branch fighter aircraft to serve as the mainstay fighter for the Republic of Dayashina Air Force as well as the Republic of Dayashina Navy's Carrier Air Wings. The GXF programme was also intended to produce a comprehensive qualitative advantage for Dayashinese pilots in light of growing tensions with a well-armed and mass-intensive Democratic People's Republic of Menghe.
