The 2023 Mount Bapò'iliop eruption was a climactic eruption of Mount Bapò'iliop in Wallenland on December 24th, 2023. Nearly two months worth of observations of the volcano and warnings of a potential eruption led to Prime Minister Kahia'ika Alo'abàkradíno ordering evacuations, credited with saving thousands of lives. The initial eruption began with lava flows, which covered over 1000 hectares, 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) wide at its widest point, about 6.2 kilometres (3.9 miles) long, and reaching the Cantalle Ocean, destroying more than 3,000 buildings, cutting the coastal highway. Later into the eruption a massive cloud of volcanic ash rose 40,000 feet (12,000 m) into the air, and a series of pyroclastic flows followed, with experts registering the eruption as a 5 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index.
