Early life and career

Ólafur Stefánsson was born in 1974 in Ströndin, Hverhöfn. After graduating high school, Ólafur pursued a degree in engineering from the University of Hverland.

After completing his studies, Ólafur became an engineer for Hverhöfn Public Works, a position he held until 1999.

Political career

Ólafur's political career began as a member of the Social Democratic Party. He was elected to the Fjallting in 2000. He worked within the party for several years. However, he increasingly found himself at odds with the party's stance on taxation and its approach to urbanization.

In 2006, Ólafur split from the Social Democratic Party and joined the Centre Party. He became party leader in 2018. After the Centre Party won the most seats in the 2022 election, he became the superintendent of state.

Personal life

Ólafur is married, and together with his wife, they raise two children, both of whom were baptized in the Lutheran Church of Hverland. Ólafur himself was raised in the Church, and although he is religiously unaffiliated, he often attends services with his family. Outside of his political duties and family commitments, Ólafur enjoys reading, hiking, and music. He is known for his love for Hverlandic literature and his advocacy for preserving and promoting the nation's cultural heritage.
