The Strategic Information Service (Veltrian: Service d'Information Stratégique) (commonly initialed SIS) is the civilian foreign intelligence service of the Sanctified Republic of Veltria, charged with the collection, cataloging, and analysis of intelligence information pertinent to the country's national security interests. Unlike the State Inspections Agency and Central Investigations Bureau, which function as political security and law enforcement agencies respectively, the SIS is not empowered to conduct operations on the Veltrian homeland without explicit and concurring consular and Guardian Council authorization. However, the service wields significant authority over both agencies in gathering human intelligence in foreign territories, and providing foreign intelligence products to Veltria’s Unitist government to inform national security policy. Empowered to conduct clandestine and covert operations in pursuit of Veltria’s geopolitical interests, the SIS is subordinate to the Department for State Security, and answers ultimately to the office of the Consul. The service's Director-General, also known as the Director for Strategic Intelligence, serves on the 21-member Joint Security Committee.
