The Lausanne Summit, held between 15 December 1943 and 1 January 1944, was a meeting of the heads of governments of the United Kingdom, the United States, the Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany to discuss a potential negotiated surrender of Nazi Germany which was then under the new leadership of Prince Louis Ferdinand who, together with several military officers, had assassinated Adolf Hitler with the Prussian prince being declared interim president and chancellor in the absence of democratic elections amidst the ongoing Second World War. The summit's idea was conceived by Louis Ferdinand who, skeptical of Germany's gradually dwindling fortunes in the war, proposed a general ceasefire while the leaders of the major participants met at Lausanne Palace, a luxury hotel located in neutral Switzerland.
