Erwin Kemal Özkan (/œz.kan/ Oz-kahn; born September 23, 1999) is a Nivesian politician affiliated with the Forward Party. He currently serves as one of the Nivesian senators representing Illinois since 2051. Before his political career, Ozcan was an executive producer for NBS.
Born in Fort Worth to a Turkish father and Filipino mother, Özkan was the Forward nominee in the 2047 special election for Illinois 6th congressional district, which had long been considered a Republican stronghold. The special election proved competitive. It generated national attention, and became the most expensive House election in North Laurentian history.
Early life and education
Özkan was born on September 23, 1999, in Forth Worth, Texas, He was raised in Mansfield, a suburb just south of Dallas-Fort Worth are. His mother, Anna Schwertmann is a retired Halske employee who immigrated to the United States from Philippines in the 1990s. His father is a professor at the University of Texas who is of Kazakh descent. Özkan was raised a Muslim, and claimed to follow the Shafi'i school of tought. His paternal ancestor migrated to the United States after the Soviet Union relaxed its immigration laws during the 1960s.
Özkan attended the islamic school Twin Stars Academy in Dallas, Texas. In high school, he was part of the Cinema and Media Society, which also led him to graduate from University of Texas at Austin in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned a Masters of Arts degree in Global Media Industries from the King's College London in 2025.
Early Career
Initially, Özkan worked as a filmographer for a before interning as a switcher operator at channel 8.
