Eskavia (Eskavian: Eskävit), officially the Eskavian Confederacy (Eskavian: Kopläjukvo Eskävit), is a sovereign state in Elia Boreal. It lies between the Free States to the X and the Alconian Ocean to the west.
Human habitation in Eskavia dates from approximately 12,000 years ago. The Attap civilization emerged along the Sivo River during the 16th century BCE, making the region one of the world's 7 independent cradles of civilization. The Attap were followed by the Mjetlumak, Plakossu, and Eskavian societies, with the Eskavians ultimately dominating the region by the year 1000 CE. By the time Calesian explorers arrived in 15XX, most of the region was organized into a patchwork of city-states dominated by the Old Eskavian Confederacy, an alliance of five cities led by the hegemonic Kingdom of Väsjomok. The Confederacy maintained its independence through the early colonial era as a result of diplomatic maneuvering and rapid Calesianization. Eskavian leaders successfully exploited Calesian imperial competition in order to preserve the balance of power in Elia Boreal and prevent encroachment by Calesian settlers. Following the conclusion of the Twelve Years' War in 1785, Eskavia was brought under the protection of Waldrich to counter the rising colonial influence of Falland and the Free States.
