Eskavia (Eskavian: Eskävit), officially the Eskavian Confederacy (Eskavian: Kopläjukvo Eskävit), is a sovereign state in Elia Boreal. It lies between the Free States to the X and the Alconian Ocean to the west.
Human habitation in Eskavia dates from approximately 12,000 years ago. The Attap civilization emerged along the Sivo River during the 16th century BCE, making the region one of the world's 7 independent cradles of civilization. The Attap were followed by the Mjetlumak, Plakossu, and Eskavian societies, with the Eskavians dominating the region by the year 1000 CE. By the time of Calesian first contact in 15XX, most of Eskavia was organized under the Eskavian Confederacy, an alliance of semi-independent city-states led by the hegemonic Kingdom of Väsjomok. The Confederacy maintained its independence through the early colonial era through diplomatic maneuvering, political centralization, and Calesianization. Eskavian leaders successfully exploited Calesian imperial competition in order to preserve the balance of power in Elia Boreal and prevent encroachment by Calesian settlers. Following the conclusion of the Twelve Years' War in 1785, Eskavia was brought under the protection of Waldrich to counter the rising colonial influence of Falland and the Free States.
