The Great Kurultay, or briefly Kurultáj, is a traditional event of peoples of Central Asian nomadic origins, which takes place in the first week of August in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan The aim of this event is to strengthen the unity of the Eurasian Steppe nomadic horse culture and traditions between Kyrgyz and their Turkic relatives as well as Iranic, Koreanic, Mongolic, Tungusic and Uralic peoples from across Eurasia. The first Kurultay was held in Cholpon-Ata in Kyrgyzstan in 2007, and has continued to be held there ever since. This has also seen a boost in Altaic self-awareness among the people of the region
