Sultan-Azamat (Ömüric: صولتانءإزامات), previously New Qalah (Ömüric: طآزي قالاه), and commonly known as Qalah, is the capital city of Kodesh. With a population of around 4.4 million in the city and 9 million in the larger metropolitan area of Greater Qalah, Qalah is the most populous city in Kodesh and Sifhar.
In the Classical era, Qalah was founded by the Ardashirvan Emperor Adurnarseh as Kalât Xâvar, after his conquest and consolidation of territories comprising the modern-day states of Qal'eh and Kodesh. It was subject to destruction and rejuvenation through the collapse of the Ardashirvan Empire and subsequent Türük, and Sükhbaataryn invasions.
Qalah has functioned as the capital city for a number of states for two millennia, most recently serving as the capital of Kodesh since 1851 by decree of Abdulhamid III. Under Muhsin III in 1928 construction of New Qalah began, with all governmental functions being moved there in 1941, though Old Qalah (Atarnarşäher) officially remained the capital until 1944. In 2007 New Qalah was renamed Sultan-Azamat to celebrate Azamat IV's Golden jubilee.
