Vezérezredes Bertalan Molnár, IBRNK IBRP KOR OHS RO SCLL KRCP TGGD CCQ (Magyari: Molnár Bertalan, 16 January 1933 – 26 February 1988) was an Aurucolian politician and general military officer that served as the Chancellor of Aurucolia from 1979 to 1988. He headed the Holy Imperial Council for National Stabilization from 1978 to 1981, a military junta that seized power in a coup d'état against the government of his predecessor Maurits-jan Egtbers. Molnár also served as regent to the Emperor Márton VI, who was an adolescent during military rule.
Molnár was born to a middle-class Magyar family in Hajdúvörösvár on 16 January 1931. He was known for having suave and charm that earned him friends, and his idiosyncratic social skills and beliefs. He graduated last in his class from the North Isthmus Military Academy in 1952, and served during the War of Lorican Aggression. He served with distinction that earned him the Marcell Gáspár Order of Gallantry and the Silver Medal of the Aurucolian Red Cross. By the end of the conflict, Molnár was brevetted Major General.
Molnár became a member of the Holy Imperial Council for National Stabilization and was handpicked by Field Marshal Maurits-jan Egtbers to serve as its chairman. Molnár was disillusioned with the government of Prime Minister Szilveszter Balogh, particularly when he nationalized the agriculture and metallurgy. He played a major role in planning the coup against the incumbent prime minister, and pushed the notion of alleged communist sympathies possessed by Balogh. After the military took power, Molnár served as Aurucolia's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1978 to 1981. Due to Egtbers' deterioring physical health in 1981, he was then appointed regent on 23 May. After Egtbers died, Molnár succeeded him as Chancellor of Auruolia. During his tenure, he allowed civilians to serve in the government, further curbed political opposition, banned left-wing political parties, and authorized repression against supposed communist activists. In 1983, he suffered from a car accident, and although he recovered, it exacerbated his erratic demeanor. He heightened his public image, subsidized the film industry, directed numerous films starring himself, threw extravagant parties, promoted himself to Field Marshal and earned himself medals that were essentially undeserved. Moreover, he stifled opposition within his own government and the military overtime, which helped widen the rift between disaffected military and government officials. During the Zebrian Civil War, Molnár increasingly mishandled the military situation, which led to his ousting on 26 February 1990. He then became an indie filmmaker, producing films that gained cult status among Aurucolian filmgoers.
Molnár remains a controversial figure in Aurucolian society, and is often ridiculed and parodied due to his peculiar social skills and speech. He is known in Aurucolia by the nicknames Vezérezredes Molnár, Bertaly, Good Molnár, and hilariously, the Dictator from Outer Space, the latter earned by underground pundits during his tenure and continuously propagated by Aurucolian satirists and comedians to mock his post-1983 idiosyncrasies.
