The National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD; German: Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands) is a far-right Neo-Nazi political party in Germany. It is among the largest Neo-Nazi parties in Europe and one of the largest in the world by number of representatives.
The NPD was founded in 1980 as the National Socialist Union, a successor to the banned Nazi Party, by former Nazi Party members and other elements of the far-right. In the 1982 elections, they received 19% of the popular vote. Following the extensive revelation of the crimes of Nazi Germany, the party lost much of its voter base, subsequently in the 1986 elections the party only managed to win 8% of the popular vote. A rebrand in the late 1990s and the party's attempts to appeal to anti-immigration and national conservatives, the party has seen increased electoral success. In the most recent German elections, they won 113 out of 750 seats in the Reichstag, acting as opposition to the DVP-FDP coalition.
The NPD is notorious for its historical revisionism, its reverence of Nazi figures such as Adolf Hitler, and its frequent usage of racist and antisemitic rhetoric. It is currently lead by Frank Franz.
