Arvin-Karim Seriftoglu Ghazaly (/ɡəˈzɑːli/ guh-ZAH-lee; born August 23, 1999) is an Atlantian politician affiliated with the National Democratic Party. He is set to replace Avaneesh Paulino as one of the Atlantian senators representing Illinois in 2054. He was the Atlantian representative for Illinois's 3rd congressional district since 2049. Before his political career, Ghazaly worked as an Editor-in-chief for Lampus Media and then a restaurateur, running his own restaurant Boxenbuns.
Early life and career
Arvin Ghazaly was born on August 23rd, 1999 from an immigrant Tatar-Turkish father and Indian-American mother. His father is a former professor at Chicago Institute of Technology, while his mother worked as a Halske manager in Washington D.C.. He was born in Baltimore, but moved to Japan at the age of 5. Then, he returned to the United States and has since lived in Chicago. He is the eldest child in the family, and has a younger sister, Karen Ghazaly, who worked for the USDA before the Great Divide. Ghazaly was raised as a moderate muslim and continues to follow Islam.
Ghazaly attended Oscar Alonzo High School, where he was active in student council activity and world language club. He also went to Islamic prep school everyday after his regular schooling. After graduating from high school in 2017, Ghazaly later went to Long Island University to study East Asian studies, majoring in Korean. He was active in the undergraduate student government between 2018-2020. He graduated in 2023 with a B.A. degree.
Ghazaly began his career in 2024 by working for a Korean MLM company in Chicago, but later resigned after three months. He became a content creator and a freelancer later, by working on some translation and online teaching jobs. He also briefly worked as a cashier for Chicken Empire, a local fried chicken restaurant in Chicago, owned by his former co-worker, Nasser Fawaz. In 2025, he attended University of Hanyang to study digital media communication while still teaching Korean. He graduated two years later with an MA degree in Digital Media Communication.
Right after his graduation, he halted his freelancing and culinary career and started working as an assistant editor for Pyramid, an American entertainment website by Lampus Media, covering popular culture. He'd later promoted to as an editor, then an editor-in-chief few years later. While working as an editor, he co-founded Boxenbuns along with his parents and his sister, occasionally helped funding and doing shifts in his free days.
