Daal is a cultural and historic trading city on both sides of the river Ranfjord in eastern Greater normark. It's municipality has a population of 470,000 which makes it the 2nd most populous city in Greater Normark. It's metropolitan area has a population of 780,000, which also makes it the 2nd most populous region in Greater Normark. It was established in 1317 by settlers of the folk Scanes that moved up the river Ranfjord when the town that is nowadays known as Older Daal got oversettled.
The oldest origin of the city comes from a Fort that has been named Fort Skrane that lays south of Older Daal on a hillside. The fort is speculated to has been created between the 4th and 7th century AD, and it used to be a merchant fort that traded both with the west and the south. It's inhabitants would later begin agriculture in the valley around Ranfjord and Older Daal would be established arount the 10th century. Due to the introduction of christianity from the east and south and normarkian culture from the west during the early 15th century was Daal culturally and religiously split in two, with Older Daal being influenced by the west and believing in an old paganistic religion while the quickly growing Daal, then knwon as Norddaal, believing in christianity and trading with the eastern settlements. After the Daal Civil during the middle 16th century was Norddaal crowned as the real Daal and Older Daal got the name Sote. After Sote becoming almost entirely abandoned after the civil war, due to both a brutal siege of the town but also massive migration by non christians to the west, it got it's modern name of Older Daal. Daal became the capital city of the newly established Kingdom of Østerdaal, which would later be forced to sign the treaty to become a part of Greater Normark.
Daal is nowadays seen as a multicultural modern centre for both culture, history, arts and modern inventions. It has quickly rosen to the 2nd most populous city of Normark and also the country's centrum for technical, medical and science oriented inventions.
