Román Bocanegra (6 November 1775 – 24 December 1846) was a Trenadian army officer, professor and political scientist who served as army general in the National Army and Minister of National Defense from 1809 to 1816. He was one of the leaders of the 1807 revolution, which led to the independence of the country. As such, he is also regarded as one of the most influential figures in the country's history, and his independence chant became the Trenadian Republic's motto.
