Borfusan is a Borfusic language that originated with the Old Southern dialects of Proto-Borfusic. Tribes of the area of Borfusia in modern-day Argolan brought these dialects south with them when they migrated to Dulmara around 2200 BCE. The dialect of the Polarts and Dorylines specifically would later develop into Old Borfusan. In circa 2100 BCE, these two tribes, as well as a few smaller tribes speaking the same language, would populate southern Cornutia (Ülsomm Fara), around the area of modern-day Kandi. Old Borfusan was heavily influenced in this period by Aldibarian, the official Borfusic language of the state of Aldibar to the north.
In about 1600 BCE, the Polarts and Dorylines migrated to the island of Borfusa, with the Vizkani and other smaller groups staying behind in Cornutia. The separation of these groups created the separation between the Borfusan and Vizkani languages. A few hundred years later, the Yrtrand tribal confederation began its migration southward from Aldibar, having been forcefully displaced by a Sharithic invasion. By 950 BCE, the Yrtrands had arrived at the island of Borfusa, settling the village of Gefing. The influence of the Yrtrandic dialect of Aldibarian resulted in more loanwords from the language and the introduction of several irregular forms in Borfusan conjugation.
