From Late Middle Kerasian هيۊ - hif ("qalam, writing tool"), from Early Middle Kerasian هيو - hiv ("qalam, writing tool"), 'هيو - hivə, from Old Kerasian هيمو - hiwo ("anything long and thin"), from North Aradeshi fiwo, fimo ("stick"), from Aradeshi fimbo ("stick"), from Proto-Aradeshi *vimbo ("stick").
