The 2012 election saw the DLP-LUDAS coalition take power once again as a minority government with confidence and supply from both the Farmers and the eight independents, the government failed to gain seats in the aftermath of the recession but held on due to in part of the strong support base in urban areas and an alignment with the Kharistani Labour movement that has defined socialist politics of the last century.
The DLP-LUDAS government was under significant strain with the ongoing Recession and the newly emerging Drug Crisis with the GDP falling steadily from 2008, with little hope for economic revival the Electoral Years of 2012 to 2016 were bleak in federal politics. The election itself was highly heated as many candidates contested electoral results, the only good news about the election results was a shuffle in the DLP-LUDAS cabinet as the DLP gained over LUDAS retaking the First Citizenship after nearly a decade out of the chair.
