The president of the United Republic of Calradia (POTURC) is the head of state and head of government of Calradia. The president heads the executive branch of the Calradian government and also serves as the supreme commander of the Calradian Republican Armed Forces. The president is directly elected via popular vote to a five-year term, along with the Vice President and, pursuant to the 51st Amendment to the Constitution of the United Republic, can only be reelected to a second term.
Prior to the establishment of the Presidency, the Supreme Chancellor served as the head of state of Calradia. However, due to concerns about the rising obsolescence of the office in the place of Congress, the lack of a powerful head of state, and political instability due to the Red Crisis in 1919, the Calradian Constitution was amended as part of a major reformation effort, with the creation of the Presidency being one of such reforms. The power of the presidency has since grown significantly, and it plays a crucial role in both Calradia's political culture and international governance, as has notably been the case in the presidencies of Franz Kunio and Edouard Arne Kirk. Aside from domestic affairs, the president is also one of the most powerful individuals in the world, which stems from Calradia's role as the world's sole superpower; as the leader of the world's largest economy and the supreme commander of one of the strongest armed forces in the world, the president wields significant international leadership and maintains a considerable amount of hard and soft power.
To date, there have been 14 individuals who have served as president since the office's creation in 1923. Rowan Allen is the 14th and current president, having assumed office on 5 January 2020. He was subsequently reelected for a second term in 2024.
