Govet OD is a firearms manufacturer based in Lappland. The company formed in the village of Uredalen and began producing high-quality hunting rifles. Since 1933 Govet has been producing and developing military rifles for the Lappland Home Guard, initially receiving a contract to mass produce domestic versions of the Trinovantan RD-01 and later to reproduce the RD-02.
History
Govet was founded in the village of Uredalen in 1901 following the passing of Lappland's first legislation on firearms earlier that year. The founder, Ásslat Krysi, built his first bolt action rifle the year prior after studying the mechanism of an Lars-Hansen Rifle belonging to a Home Guard soldier staying in the village. Krysi began producing more for other villagers and eventually formed the company on March 5th 1901. The first production facility in Uredalen remained the company's headquarters for several years.
The outbreak of the Omandan_Continental_War prompted Lappland to invest more in its defense capabilities, which were quite limited at the time. With the implementation of conscription in 1932, the Home Guard struggled with a severe deficit of rifles after relying on old stockpiles of rifles aquired from Trinovantum in 1891 and 1903. The homeguard entered a contract with Govet to start producing new RD-01 rifles, which prompted the company to open a larger facility in Kiuruvesi in 1934. These SB-10 designated rifles received several changes from the early model rifles in Lappland's inventory, such as a heavier barrel and several parts simplified for mass production.
As the Home Guard began to modernise, Govet began producing the SB-40, developed from the Fam-86 in 2005. Govet has also produced several accessories such as rails, grips and optics for these rifles, some of which are available commercially. Since 2020 Govet has reportedly been developing a fully domestic replacement for these rifles.
