The Institute for the Advancement of the Sacred Vision (Veltrian: Izkim’ai-e Velíyaht Bazij’afin) (commonly referred to as The Institute, the IVB, and informally, the Eyes of the Prophet) is the oldest of the ten Institutes that serve administrative functions within the Veltrid Magisterium, and operates as an internal security, intelligence, and secret police force under religious administration in the Sanctified Republic of Veltria. Charged with the security of the Veltrid Magisterium, the IVB traces its linage back to the Hasidji of the ancient Veltrid Kritarchy - an order of Astąhvist judges established in the 2nd century B.C.E. that served as an investigatory body to identify and root out heretical movements. Since the 1956 Unitist Revolution (and the subsequent restructuring of Veltria's intelligence services), the scope of the modern IVB's mission has expanded to secure the country against subversive political threats to national unity and regime integrity. The IVB is unique among its other departmental counterparts not only in its investigatory and security duties, but also in its capacity to adjudicate issues of morality enforcement, and more controversially, coordinate the country's nationwide apparatus (in conjunction with the Sāzmān-e Cheshm) for the enforcement of Astąhvist social doctrine among the Veltrian public.
