Willamette (/wɪˈlæmɪt/ wil-AM-it), officially the Confederation of Willamette, is a country located in western North America, bordered by Canada to the north, the Reformed States to the east, New California to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is a confederation of two semi-autonomous regions, Oregon and Washington, and 75 counties. It has a population of almost 20 million people, an area of over 430,000 km2, and one of the world's highest human development index scores.
The area that is now Willamette was solely inhabited by Native Americans from about 20,000 years ago until the mid-16th century when Spanish traders began sending vessels northeast from the Philippines, riding the Kuroshio Current in a sweeping circular route across the northern part of the Pacific. The Lewis and Clark Expedition traversed Oregon in the early 1800s, and the first permanent European settlements in Oregon were established by fur trappers and traders. In 1843, an autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country, and the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and was split in 1853 forming the Washington Territory. Oregon became the 33rd state of the U.S. on February 14, 1859, and Washington became the 42nd state on November 11, 1889.
Willamette seceded from the United States following the United States Term Limits Act of 2031, joining New California and the New England Confederation, and was officially constituted in 2032.
