The Socialist Party, officially the Socialist Party of America, is a leftist and democratic socialist political political party in the United States. Created in 1901 as a split from the People's (Populist) Party, the Socialists were initially led by Eugene V. Debs, and became a major political force beginning in the 1910s. The Socialist Party is currently a member of the Democratic-led Alliance for Democracy.
