The Grand Duchy of Staverden (GDS), colloquially, Staveden is a country located on the continent of Remus. The Grand Duchy consists of 12 provinces. It shares land borders with Corusconia, Trimainia, and Lyonia. With a population of 16 million, it is the 48th most populous in the world. The Staverdian capital is Arnhem, which is also its most populous city.

The Grand Duchy has been a unitary parliamentary constitutional grand duchy since September 8th, 1624. Staverden has a long tradition of social tolerance, having legalized prostitution and enacting liberal drug policies and early adoption of women's suffrage. It was a large exporter of agricultural products until multiple major ports, including the then largest Arnhem port, underwent downsizing and closures following a national SARS epidemic and the ensuing economic decline and closure of borders. Still, agriculture and production of agricultural machinery stand as cornerstones to the Staverdenian economy, owing to fertile soils, and mild climates. The southern Giethoorn city maintains the busiest port and international airports in the Grand Duchy. Staverden is considered a mixed market advanced economy. In the past five years, Staverden has seen a 20% reduction in GDP.
