The Progressive Republican Party was founded in 1949 by disillusioned members of the Valentirian Federation of Labour, which was increasingly dominated by centre-left technocrats. Established around the principals of Valentirian federalism and Progressive conservatism, the PRP first came to power in 1951 under Gaëtan Gilliéron. Since then the party has formed 5 of the last 11 Valentirian governments. The most recent was formed by Peter Molyneux in 2009 after nearly 15 years in opposition. Under leaders Angélique Guyon and Johnathan Bennett the PRP has moved steadily towards the centre of Valentirian politics, with strong support in rural communities and the suburbs. It is the leading member of the United for Valentir electoral alliance.

AP-DS was founded in 1972 as a merger of the Démocrates sotiriens de Ghislaine and Action populaire. Originally founded in the pursuit of Ghislainian independence, today the party supports Sotirian democracy and regionalism. After the end of the Tranquil Conveyance, the AP-DS base shifted from Gaullican separatists to rural graziers and suburban communities in Ghislaine, Aigremont, and Serault. In 1977 it formed the electoral alliance United for Valentir with the Progressive Republicans. It has been the junior partner of every PRP government since 1987. AP-DS leader Tristan Teyssier has served as Deputy Prime Minister since 2014.
