Brasilistan, officially The Free Republic of Brasilistan is an island nation located in the Pacific Ocean north of Boldonia. After the Second Boldonian-Brasilistani War the nation has been formed into a unitary republic, replacing the one party military dictatorship previously in power.

Before the wars Brasilistan was ruled by a one party communist dictatorship set up by the Soviet Union as a puppet nation. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the nation quickly fell into chaos during which a communist military junta took control during the chaos and instituted policies to maintain order and heavily militarize the country.

History

Colonization

Brasilistan was colonized by the Spanish Empire in 1536, 15 years after Boldonia. While small plantations were set up more focus was placed on the more lucrative Boldonian business south. This led the small Brasilistani population to eventually feel abandoned by the Spanish, and after the Latin American Revolutions the Brasilistani people were inspired to start their own revolution in 1814.

Independence

After a short one year period of civil unrest the Spanish Empire finally gave Brasilistan independence. The Republic of Brasilistan was established officially in 1815. The republic was considered to be very flawed with politics often being out of the hands of the citizens.

During World War I Brasilistan aligned with the German Empire which led to an invasion by Japan, becoming a Japanese puppet state after the war. This would be a major factor in World War II with Brasilistan being invaded by the United States during the Boldonia Campaign. However after the war Brasilistan was handed of to the Soviet Union to keep the Soviets satisfied.

Soviet Control

Under the Soviet Union Brasilistan became a communist state, the People's Republic of Brasilistan. This would extend the Cold War to the Pacific with the US Territory of Boldonia to the south and Guam to the west being under constant threat from Soviet units in Brasilistan.

Post Soviet

Eventually once the Soviet Union collapsed Brasilistan quickly turned more extremist. A facist-communist government took control and Brasilistan was soon sanctioned by most of the world. Eventually this extremism proved to difficult to ignore and once the Independent Republic of Boldonia gained independence Brasilistan soon became a target.

Boldonian Control

Under Boldonia a new government took control to root out and eliminate communism from Brasilistan. Communist guerilla fighters remained in the forests however and continue to this day to be a problem for Brasilistan.

Weston's Contol

Once Boldonian forces left a coup was immediately formed with Andreas Weston taking control of the country. Under Weston Brasilistan would become authoritarian, and soon Weston's animosity towards Boldonia would cause a Second War.

Democracy

Once again under Boldonia, the new Boldonian doctrine on any occupied nation would form Brasilistan into a democracy. An election was held with President Hernan Bosque winning the election.

Geography

Brasilistan is an island nation located north of Boldonia. The nation has a tropical rainforest climate and in the center is somewhat mountainous. A long peninsula extends out on the southwest called the West Peninsula (Spanish: Peninsula de Oeste). In the center is the Brasilistani Rainforest, also called the Ash Forest due to damage during the first Boldonian-Brasilistani War. However the forest is recovering with efforts from both the government and local organizations.

Government and Politics

Brasilistan is a unitary republic controlled by both the president and the legislature. The Brasilistani Governmental Body is bicameral, being split between the Senate of Brasilistan and the Brasilistani House of Representatives. The nation is split into 12 districts based on population, which each elect 5 representative who then elect the senator for that district. The office of president is an elected office with a term limit of three years.

Military

The Brasilistani Armed Forces, although reduced, still remains an active fighting force. The Army is limited to 7,000 active personnel, with both the Navy and Air Forve being limited to 4,000 active personnel each. Despite this the military retains most of its arms, consisting of older Soviet models combined with surplus Boldonian equipment. The main battle rifle of the military is shared between the M16 and the AK-47, the navy's flagship is BSS Leon Ramos (Formerly BSS Andreas Weston) and Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer, and the air force's main fighter is the MIG-23 supplemented by MIG-27s and the rare F-5.

Transportation

Brasilistan is serviced by a network of highways across the country. There are currently 3 routes, the Main Island Beltway (BR-1), Brasilis-New Volgagrad Highway (BR-2), and the West Peninsula-Playa Alegre Highway (BR-3). The highways are mostly four lane limited-access roads except for in New Volgagrad and Brasilis where they briefly upgrade to freeways before once again downgrading as they leave the city. The intersections between highways are all cloverleaf interchanges.
