The Celaeno was a Syaran prototype supersonic fighter jet intended for service in the Syaran Army Air Corps. The Celaeno was intended to replace the older Erinys light fighter and function as a multi-role fighter capable of air-to-air combat and ground attack.
The Celaeno is a Syaran supersonic, single-engine, multi-role fighter/ground attack aircraft.

During the Granika Border War the Armed Forces of the Syaran Republic identified the need to produce modern aircraft to compete with neighboring Ruvelka, who fielded largely Cacertian made designs. While the Erinys had proven a servicable and popular airraft, by the late 1970s the SAAC had begun looking for a replacement that would compliment the Nephele in air combat operations. The Hayren War increased the demand for a new aircraft, and the first design was submitted in 1981. For the next two years the aircraft underwent development and testing, with a semi-functional prototype completed in spring 1983.  The first flight was scheduled to begin in late 1983, but the outbreak of the Refusal War brought development of the aircraft to a halt, and the project was cancelled following the dissolution of the Republic of Syara. While the design documents and blueprints survived the war, the original prototype was scrapped sometime in 1986. Following the war the Commonality Air Force chose instead to develop the Ceyx and acquire the Zephyr from Ossoria.
The Celaeno was originally planned in 1982 by the Republic of Syara as a replacement for the Erinys to serve as a light, mulit-role fighter that could take over a variety of missions and leave Syara's fleet of Nephele fighter/interceptors free to engage in conducting air superiority operations. The dissolution of the Republic during the Refusal War put these plans on hold, and the Celaeno was nearly scrapped. In the aftermath of the founding of the Commonality however the Commonality Air Force expressed a desire to revisit the concept. The Celaeno was reborn starting in 1992 and proceeded quickly due to the work already done by the Syaran Army Air Corps. The Celaeno's first flight was in 1993, and the aircraft entered service two years later in 1995.

While the aircraft never flew, it found an unexpected upsurge in popularity in the mid-2010s after its apperance on the Cacertian animated television show Piloti e nuvole (Pilots and Clouds), which takes place in alternatve universe where Syaran Republic never collapsed. The popularity of the aircraft among social media users led to a petition among fans of the show for the CAF to revist the prospect, which Syara declined.
The Celaeno's role as a fighter/bomber came into prominence during the Zemplen War, where the cheap, multi-role aircraft was pressed into a variety of functions during the war. The Celaeno was the most common Syaran fighter during the conflict and played a major role in virtually every major operation. A total of 146 were shot down over the course of the war, the most of any fighter aircraft. After the war the Celaeno underwent various upgrades to capitalize on experience and knowledge gained. The Celaeno is expected to serve until the 2030s.

The Celaeno is a Syaran supersonic, single-engine, multi-role fighter/ground attack aircraft.
