Ball de Contrarapide, commonly known as simply Contrarapide, is a Jumbosan team sport. It is played between two teams of 10 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by throwing the ball into the other team's goal from outside the goalkeeper's zone(2 points) or by passing the ball to a player that is behind the last player on the opposing team(1 point). The latter method is only allowed if both the thrower and the catcher are in the offensive third.

Players advance the Contrarapide ball up the field with a combination of carrying and hand-passing. In the game, you can get a point in two ways: either by throwing the ball into the other team's goal, signalled by the Scorekeeper raising a green flag, or by passing the ball to a player that is behind the last player on the opposing team, signalled by the Scorekeeper raising a blue flag. The latter way of getting a point is called flanking. A tactical ambush can be combined with a normal goal, and in that case will the scorekeeper raise a cyan flag to signal that the attacking team will receive three points in total. This is called a Tactical ambush. Positions in Contrarapide are zone based and are divided into offensive, defensive and Central. Every team has 10 players, where 5 positions need to be non offensive and 5 positions need to be non defensive.

Contrarapide is mainly played on the islands of Jumbosa, although units of the International Contrarapide Association exist in Quetana, Emmiria and Caspiaa. Outside of Jumbosa is Contrarapide mainly played among members of the Jumbosan diaspora. Four major Contrarapide competitions operate throughout the year: the National Contrarapide League and the Three Star Championship operate on an inter-county or an etat federal basis, while the Contrarapide Cup is contested by individual clubs internationally. The fourth competition is called the Contrarapide World Cup, and it is an International nation team based tournament. The National Contrarapide League is considered the most prestigious event in Contrarapide.

Etymology

Ball de Contrarapide comes from the three Lémanchian words Fast(Rapide), Contact(Contrana) and Ball(Ball). Ball de Contrarapide literally means Fast Contact ball, even though people nowadays just calls it Contrarapide. The fast and brutal nature of the sport is said to be the reason to why it is name the way it is named.

Positions

Positions in Contrarapide are categorized in to three categories; offensive, defensive and Central. These positions are also based on the zones on the field, that are the offensive third, central third and the defensive third. The central third are divided into 2 zones, offensive central zone and defensive central zone, these 2 zones are divided by the central line. The offensive third is divided into the offensive zone and the striker zone. The defensive third is divided into the defensive zone and the goalkeeper zone. Different positions are allowed to play in different zones, and a team isn't allowed to have more than five purely offensive and five purely defensive players. A team is only allowed to have at most one goalkeeper and at most one striker, other than that are teams allowed to distribute positions however they want as long as it doesn't breach the 5 player rule. To make it easier for the referees to know which players have which positions, have goalkeepers a different game kit than the other players and each position have a bunch of jersey numbers attached to it. Goalkeepers have 1 and 96 to 99, Liberos 2 to 20, defenders 21 to 40, defensive link 41 to 50, offensive link 51 to 60, attackers 61 to 80 and Strikers 81 to 95.

There are three types of defensive positions; Defender, Libero and Goalkeeper. The Goalkeeper is only allowed to be in the goalkeeper zone, and they are the only ones, plus liberos and the opposing team's strikers, that are allowed to be in the goalkeeper zone. The goalkeeper zone is 20 meter wide and 6 meter long. The libero is allowed to play in both the goalkeeper zone and the defensive zone, but they aren't allowed to enter the defensive central zone. The defender is allowed to play in both the defensive zone and the defensive central zone, but they are not allowed to enter the goalkeeper zone.

There are two types of offensive positions; Attacker and Striker. The Striker is only allowed to be in the striker zone, and they are the only ones, plus the opposing team's liberos and goalkeeper, that are allowed to be in that zone. The striker zone is just another name for the goalkeeper's zone, and the name is just based on weather the team is defending or attacking. The attacker is allowed to play in both the offensive zone and the offensive central zone, but they are not allowed to enter the striker zone.

There are two types of central positions; defensive link and offensive link. The defensive link is only allowed to be in the central half and the defensive zone, while the offensive link is only allowed to be in the central half and the offensive zone. The central players main task is to connect the play between the offensive and defensive positions, since they are the only players that are allowed in both central zones.
