Hegoak is a classic liberal political party in Brilliania, which is the legal successor to the influential Republic Society. It supports private enterprises and a free-market economy. As the Republic Society, it was highly influential for the democratisation of Brilliania and the abdication of King Ilurdo. The party also operates 49 csoko's, which were founded as speakeasies.

Founding

The Republic Society was founded in 1865 by the Group of Twelve as a debate club. The party organised in the Hamabi Bat (Twelve as One) csoko in Martirien Herria, which still is the party headquarters.

Ten Demands to King Ilurdo

On 6 November 1888, Artze Bidecurucio nailed a paper with ten demands to the entrance of the Royal Palace. The declarations were:

  • Abdication of the king
  • Founding of a national parliament
  • Free elections with full adult suffrage
  • Election of a Constitutional Drafting
  • Female emancipation
  • Abolition of exile as punishment
  • Abolition of the death penalty
  • Abolition of forced labour
  • Granting amnesty to the 9 republicans arrested for the death of Princess Garbine
  • End to the suppression of the Iparinan language

The refusal of the demands caused massive social unrest, resulting in a partial acceptance of the Declarations. Ilurdo accepted the foundation of a national parliament and a new constitution, additionally compromised for the introduction of a crowned republic, but refused to act regarding the other points. The Republicans and the King signed the Agreement of the Palace on 7 July 1889, which caused the start of a constitutional draft which eventually resulted in the First Constitution of the Crowned Republic.

Renaming

In 2011, the party merged with the Free Thought Party to form a new party named Hegoak. Template:Brillian political parties
