Background

In the early seventies was it obvious to most royal guards officers and civilian noblemen that the bolt action KVG-08 was outdated and it needed to be replaced with a more modern weapon. However despite this so were there a lot of resistance to this since the robust and sturdy KVG-08 had triumphed again and again on the field of battle and had become a icon of the royal guardsman. Especially so had the KVG gained a lot of favour and love as the weapon that saved the monarchy during the civil war. Another problem arose from the large number of officers that doubted that anyone could create a weapon as great as the predecessor which further made people resistant to replace the well know and loved rifle.

The task to build and to design the new weapon, termed KVG-09 or "Khöngliga vakt gevar mark 09" (eng: Royal guard firearm mark 09), where in the end given to the auf Sandersja house that had designed the KVG-08 to appease both factions in the military. The new weapon needed to be similar looking to the old KVG-08 but still needed to be easy to maintain and manufacture. Another requirement was that the weapon was to be semi-automatic and while the idea of a fully automatic firearm was toyed around with so was it ultimately dismissed as wasteful for the common soldier.

After a series of tests and rejected designs so were Hans auf Sadersja finally able to present the KVG-09 to the military high command which after various tests concluded that the weapon was "more than capable in both glorious melee with bayonets and at long range firefights!". The weapon went into production and in the invasion of New freedia so were units armed with KVG-09 able to out perform men armed with the older KVG-08 which managed to finally put it up as a worth successor to the KVG-08 in the eyes of the public and the more reactionary elements of the army. After it had been issued as a standard weapon did it not take long until one could find new versions of the rifle introduced in the guard and quickly so could one see the super bent magazine version developed by infantrymen and then patterned by the Sandersja family just as the Sandersja family produced the ivory and ebony versions that were quickly introduced for the richer regiment's that could afford them.

Construction

The internal mechanisms of the KVG

To be a reliable weapon for both melee and long range combat so is the KVG constructed out of stainless steel and wood with few moving parts and is as a result easy to maintain in the field. Thanks to it's heavy weight so is the recoil low and it's design makes it a marvellous weapon for melee fighting as you can quickly and easily put a rather large force behind a strike regardless if you are using it to stab or to cut at your enemy. With a gas operated long stroke so is the weapon quite reliable even if it suffers from a slightly heavier recoil than it should have otherwise, however thanks to the heavy weight with another stroke system even if the relative weight of the rifle helps to a degree to stop that particular drawback. With two good and proper iron sights so is the gun also quite easy to aim with and on long ranges so is it able to stand up to most things that the world can throw at it's owner. However despite all this so is the KVG's weakness medium range combat as it lacks the rapid fire of a automatic weapon and manoeuvrability of a carbine and it tends to get in the way in terrain that does not allow for much moment as indoor fighting. While normally feed from a short ten round magazine so is the KVG also able to be feed from a larger twenty round one and there is a simple modification that allows the KVG to be armed with a massive super bent magazine holding 50 rounds.

Versions

Carbine

The internal mechanisms of the KVG

The carbine version of the rifle or the KVKG-09 (Khöngliga vakt karbin Gevar model 09) was designed almost a year after the release and adoption of the KVG-09 by the royal guard. The idea behind the carbine was to be adopted by regiments that would not fight in the open field as much as normal regiments would and especially on places where combat would be unfavourable for the longer standard version.

This version have so far been favoured by cavalry units that have appreciated the more mobile weapon that you can easily use from a saddle or drag from a saddlebag if they would need to quickly dismount, artillery units that do not require long range weapons and where the original version would only get in the way or be a burden, Naval infantry that cannot use the longer weapons in boarding actions and for regiments that are raised for urban combat where the long KVG would get in the way.

VVG-09

The VVG-09 or (Valkvaktsgevar/peoples guard rifle) is a variant that differ from the KVG-09 purely in naming, it is mostly constructed in Sorrelia but other areas of manufacture also exist. Two versions of this version can be found, first is Imerian constructed KVG-09s that have heraldry and naming either filed off or replaced entirely which is then resold as a VVG-09 but some rifles are constructed from scratch as bootleg KVGs under as VVGs. The name is a parody/homage to the VVG-08 used by the syndicalist forces during the Imerian civil war and while originally being an entirely fictional rifle that showed up in various alternative history media where the syndicalists won the civil war have it since then been made into a real life rifle that is sold as a rifle less tied to the Imerian crown.

Ammunition

The KVG-09 is armed with the heavy 8x56mm Khönungskot just as most heavy infantry weapons used by the federal krigsmakt is, and while it is normally only loaded with the standard bullet that is cheep and reliable so does other versions exists and above can we see (from left to right):

the standard bullet

(First and second picture) A normal bullet made out of lead that is cheep to produce and packs a rather heavy punch towards anyone that is hit by this large round.

Tracer round

(third) The Tracer round is often reserved for heavy machineguns even if it is also common for them to be used by the infantry to help them aim. Built with magnesium components so do this bullet burns bright and white so that the royal guardsman can correct his aim after the first bullet.

Armour piercing

(Fourth and fifth) With a tungsten dart so is the Armour piercing bullet able to take on enemy heavy infantry armour and even lighter vehicles would the need arise.

Blank

(sixth and seventh) While a blank round is mostly used for training as it is does not contain a projectile so is it still used by guardsmen that will be equipped with rifle grenades to propeller the grenade forward.
