History

Geography

A third of Prossinia sits above the north pole. Prossinia is home to a multitude of ethnic groups and peoples due to its size. In terms of topography Prossinia can be split into three regions. The far north, the centre and the southern steppe. Nine The far north is a landscape of marshy treeless tundra known for so-called white nights (dusk at midnight, dawn shortly thereafter) in summer, and for days of total darkness in winter. The long, harsh winters and lack of sunshine allow only mosses, lichens, and dwarf willows and shrubs to sprout low above the barren permafrost. Although several powerful Northern rivers traverse this zone as they flow northward to the Northern Ocean, partial and intermittent thawing hamper drainage of the numerous lakes, ponds, and swamps of the tundra. The rest of the far north is dominated by taiga. with a milder climate, in general, the climate zone is moist, moderately warm (cool in the north) in the summer and harsh winter, there is a steady snow cover in the winter. It is dominated by dense spruce and fir forests on wetlands alternate with pine forests. The central region is home to dense deciduous forest while the southern steppe is a lanscape of treeless grassland nestled among the southern mountains on the border with Karkutia.

The Ludskèe mountains of Eastern Prossinia

Prossinia's mountains are concentrated in its south along its border with Kakutia and in its far east in thr Ludskée and Ronor Kreijy. The Eastern Ludsk mountains run along Prossinia's eastern border and are characterised by several low passes which allow for freight trains and so on to pass through the range. The tallest mountain in this range is Baiak (2,200m). Among the Ludskèe mountains in the Kreigy of Droshedna lake Droshedna for which the region gets its name can be found. It is the largest and deepest lake in North Utopia. The Southern mountains run along the border woth Kakutia and make up part of the Great Prossinian-Karkut Plain and the Great Prossinian-Karkut steppe. Here the highest mountain in Prossinia Kharkaal (6,100m). In the centre and far north of Prossinia lies the Central Prossinian plain with elevation reaching only 300-800m it is the most populated part of Prossinia and where 77% of the entire population lives. Prossinia is a water rich country being provided with a multitude of rivers which flow from the Ludsk mountains and from the great northern ranges of Regmotto. Forty five of Prossinia's rivers are more than 1,000 km long with the longest being the Lussov which flows through the capital Yakatra. Prossinia holds large mineral and coal reserves much of which is concentrated in the far north. Along woth this large portions of central Prossinia is made up of fertile agricultural land helping Prossinia become one of thd world's largest economies.

Climate

Most of Prossinia has a temperate climate, despite its northern latitude, with largely four distinct seasons and mild temperatures throughout the year. The country can be divided into three types of climate: the southernmost part has an arid steppe climate, the central part has a humid continental climate and the north has a subarctic climate. Because of Prossinia's high latitude, the length of daylight varies greatly. North of the Arctic Circle, the sun never sets for part of each summer, and it never rises for part of each winter. In the capital, Yakatra, daylight lasts for more than 18 hours in late June but only around 6 hours in late December. Prossinia receives between 1,100 and 1,900 hours of sunshine annually. During July there is not much difference in temperature between the north and south of the country. With the exception of in the mountains, the whole country has a July-average temperature within the range of 15 °C (59 °F) to 17.5 °C (63.5 °F) (a difference of 2.5 degrees Celsius), while the January-average temperatures vary from freezing point down to below −15 °C (5 °F) along the border with Karkutia (a difference of 15 degrees Celsius).
