The first season of The Great University Showdown was held from 10th of February to the 22nd of May 2022. It was broadcasted on ABA Channel 2 and is sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the Alezian Union. The show is a competition show involving 64 Universities and Tertiary Study Places all around the Alezian Union competing against each other in quizzes consisting of questions involving Alezian Civics and Culture.
Background
The idea for a televised quiz competition involving Alezian civics and culture has been flown around the Alezian Broadcasting Authority even before reunification. The Alezian government supported it with the addition to have the show held between universities as a ground of increasing brotherhood and friendship between Alezian universities. However, the plan initially failed due to low interest in North Alezian universities.
The concept was retouched in late 2021 again now with the additional universities from South Alezia, Mosin Nagan, and the Pantabang Islands. Eventually, the Alezian Broadcasting Authority opened registration for competing universities and started promoting the show.
Format
The Great University Showdown involves two universities competing against eachother fighting over points represented by the 24 sub-regions of the Alezian Union added with the territories of Daya Island (North Alezia), Pulau Persekitaran (South Alezia), Adandaria (South Alezia), and Lapis and Lazuli (Pantabang Islands), with the team earning the most region winning the round and advancing to the next round.
Point System
In each round, a university would be asked a question relating to a sub region's culture and other things. Should the team answered correctly, the sub-region would be theirs and they would receive a point.
If the team answered incorrectly, the team won't receive a point and the question would be thrown to the other team and should they answered correctly, that team would receive a point and the sub-region would be theirs. Should both fail to answer the question, the sub-region would be "frozen" and won't be able to be taken unless in the "Unfreeze" round where any frozen sub-region could be taken by the quickest.
Rounds
Round 1 is called "Alezia is in Order", in this round each team would be asked six questions with each teams allowed to pick their own sub-region, intended for three questions for each university. Each university can take over each other's question should the initial team answered their intended question wrong.
Round 2 is called "The Fastest Alezian Alive", in this round, eight questions would be asked about eight random sub-regions. Each team would be allowed to press a button in their table to answer a question. Should two teams pressed the button, the quickest would be given the question and would receive a point if they can answer the question correctly. If they failed to do so, the question would be thrown to the opposite team.
Round 3 is called "True or Nah?", in this round, eight questions would be asked with each teams allowed to pick their own sub-region. However, instead of a four-choice question, the questions in this round is longer, with the answer being either True or Nah (or false). A correct question would receive two points instead of one in round one and two.
Round 4 is called "In Succession", in this round, the remaining six sub-regions would be competed. In this round, a team would be asked to choose a sub-region and they have to answer five questions in 60 seconds for the sub-region, and then the other team would have to answer different five questions in 60 seconds for the same sub region. The team who earned the most points earns the sub-region and earn three points. Should there be a tie, a tiebreaker question would be asked ala round 2.
Round 5 is called "Unfreeze" and would only be held if there's any "frozen" sub-regions. In this round, the same mechanism as Round 2 would be held where the remaining sub-regions would be contested where each team would be allowed to press a button in their table to answer a question. This round gives only 1 point to a correct answer.
After all rounds, a bonus round would be held where minigames would be held. One of three minigames would be initiated where each team would either guess an Alezian cultural object (dance, art, song, etc.), Roast eachother with a judge present, or Have each team ask a random Alezian civic related question to be answered by the opposite team. The winning team in the bonus round received a special prize, but no points would be allocated.
