The Type 011 submarine (Orca class) a class of diesel-electric submarine in Tarsas's Imperial Sea Legion. It is the second AIP powered submarine. It operates the latest Tarsan submarine technology. The Type 011 uses two Lithium-Ion batteries and it's hull is constructed from up to 5,500 composite material tiles that reportedly absorb sound waves and is much less magnetised than previous constructions. The Type 011 is the first Tarsan AIP submarine to be armed with vertical launch tubes alongside its four torpedo tubes.

The Type 011 is planned to form the backbone of the conventional submarine fleet.

Design

The Type 011 is designed for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, defence of oceanic chokepoints, seashore and sealanes, as well as for raids on shipping. The Type 011 is the first Rodarian submarine to utilise a X rudder, which provides four control surfaces, along with two mounted on the sail, which enables sharp turns and the ability to operate very close to the seabed. Higher levels of ship automation and computerised steering allow a handful of operators to steer the submarine in-depth and course, which also results in a smaller crew complement, however it was chosen for the Type 011 to have a complement of special naval forces personnel, enabling the Type 011 to transport special forces within its range.

The vessel is powered by eight Nickel-hydrogen batteries, which were chosen for their efficiency and energy storage over periods of time, enabling the Type 011 to operate longer at sea without having to recharge its batteries. Due to its energy saving attributes, the Type 011 does not operate alternative batteries in the event of power loss, however two are inactive and store energy whilst the remaining six power the vessel. On the water surface, the submarine is powered by a single 386 TETRU-KKV shaft diesel engine (diesel-electric). While submerged, the RNIRC 554VQ nickel-hydrogen batteries power the TR7 propeller pump-jet.

The Type 011 is the first non-nuclear Rodarian submarine to operate the Audacia Combat Management System, which receives data from the boat's sensors and displays real time imagery on all command consoles. The submarines also have Aquia Hydrographic VARO 25 high-precision echosounders, two HHJ10 non-hull-penetrating optronic masts—in place of conventional periscopes—which carry thermal imaging and low-light TV and colour CCD TV sensors. The sensor suite performs surveillance, intelligence gathering, and electronic warfare, with a multispectral suite of a color and a monochrome high-definition TV cameras, a midwave infrared staring sensor and eye-safe laser rangefinder. Due to the non-penetrating hull nature of the mast system, more room in the control room has been used to expand the sonar command suite, furthermore the optronics feeds data straight to the Audacia Combat Management System, giving the crew complete real-time data, improving the submarine's combat awareness.

Stealth features

The Type 011 operates active coating with embedded electronics that will determine the frequency at which the radar of the opponent operates and launch its own signal of the same frequency but in opposite phase. The development will be universal for all Type 011 submarines and will have to work with advanced computer systems for the future submarine fleet the aim being that the coating will not just absorb the sonar signal (as do the existing passive coating materials of submarine hulls), but neutralize incoming radiation. The passive anti sonar coating, is made of a composite material based on rubber, the doubled hull, rather than operating a gap between the inner and outer hull is filled with rubber blocks that further reduce sound emissions. The hull is noted as a compact and integrated hydrodynamically efficient hull for reduced broadband noise.

The interior of the submarine is also constructed of composite materials with the decks covered in a composite rubber material, the machinery parts are constructed in the same composite materials however the composition of these materials is currently unknown. The continued use of the pump-jet propulsion system further expands the vessel's stealth capabilities, except the pump-jet used aboard the Type 011 is superior to the Eustațiu class, the Type 011's 386 TETRU-KKV AIP engine is more power efficient than previous variants, improved gears within the shaft enable the pump-jet to push the vessel forward at a greater speed compared to other Rodarian vessels with the pump-jet.

Armament

The Type 011 is equipped to carry out its intended tasks and can utilise a variety of naval weapons including torpedoes, surface-to-air and anti-ship missiles, as well as naval mines including the Type 74 TORIN anti-submarine mine.

Each submarine is fitted with 4 × 533 mm (21.0 in) torpedo tubes and six HDVL-40 vertical launch tubes. The 21in tubes can be used to launch torpedoes or naval mines. Its armament includes the Type 09 torpedo, T-10 Supercavitation Torpedo and the Estovakivan produced Model DT58 torpedo. The VLS tubes are capable of launching T-330, T-890 anti-ship missiles, SD-08 and HQ-7 surface to air missiles and the VR-20 anti-ship cruise missile, the missile has a inertial guidance system using satellite navigation data, and may carry a 300 kg. high explosive warhead or an anti-radiation warhead to destroy electronics at short range, it has an overall range of 290 nautical miles (540 km) and can reach speeds between Mach 2.5 to 3.0. It can also launch VRT-03 land-attack cruise missiles which have a range of 480km, which are used to attack per-determined targets.
