The Revolutionary Workers' Party (Iotophan: Պարտիյա Կարկերêն Şորեşգեր; Partiya Karkerên Şoreşger), sometimes called the PKS, is the ruling party of the Republic of Iotopha.

The party was formed as a merger of the Social Democratic Party and the Radical Liberal Party. Its first leader was Azad Nezan, who became Paramount Leader of Iotopha in 1924 after the Iotophan Revolution. It was the sole governing party of Iotopha from 1924 until 1985. The PKS was a minor party following democratization, which removed the party's constitutional supremacy over Iotopha, and the provisional presidency of Aram Barzani. By 2005, the party experienced a resurgence, becoming the second largest political party in Iotopha. The PKS regained control of most state offices in 2010, coinciding with the 2010 special election. President Fadil Berxwedan is the party's incumbent General Secretary.

The PKS is a socialist party, officially holding socialism as its primary ideology. It can be classified as a Big tent party under the secretariat of Berxwedan, including officials and politicians supporting a variety of political views.

Party structure

The Revolutionary Workers' Party is the oldest registered political party in Iotopha. The party structure is similar to the structure under the Democratic Republic, and is led by the Presidium and chaired by the General Secretary. Central Committee follows democratic centralism. There are 14 party chapters, one of each province of Iotopha, which are led by provincial committees.

Presidium

Individuals are elected to the Presidium by party membership at party conventions in a public voting process. The coercive nature of the voting process results in members being appointed by the General Secretary and party leadership. Since 2005, all proposed candidates by the General Secretary have been unanimously approved by acclamation.

General Secretary

Established in 1921, the General Secretary is the most senior member and leader of the PKS. It is responsible for leading the party secretariat and carrying out administrative functions. From 1921 until 1985, the General Secretary was also the Paramount Leader of Iotopha.
