The origins of VHI lay in the purchase by Andersburg-born Magda Aronvulk, the daughter of a blacksmith and a weaver, of a blast furnace facility. When the Bessemer Process was patented in the Federation by Huron Bessmyr, Aronvulk was among the first in Ottonia to take out a license and open a steel mill making use of the process; she was able to quickly expand with financial help from the Staalmarker House Riktun-Sproek, purchasing other up-and-coming steel mills around the Anders River Valley, particularly centered on Rikardsburg.
Due to the political sympathies of many industrialists in immediate post-Unification Ottonia, officials in the new federal government found themselves with significant infrastructure projects and often a lack of willing partners to realize them. Purchasing failing steel mills and mines in the Bluwaalds, Staalmark, Skraelingia, and Eona, the federal government directed and consolidated their own industrialization efforts under the aegis of the Vulksaron Corporation. Government armament factories were quickly placed within the Corporation's portfolio, and in the early 20th century when automotive and aerospace manufacturing became a concern, they followed into Vulksaron's extensive purview.

In 1854, Aronvulk formally consolidated the four steel mills and other foundries under her ownership into a unified management company, the Vulksaron Company.

Following the Great Ottonian War, a great deal of emphasis was placed on getting Vulksaron's factories back online to support the reconstruction effort. In the present day, VHI is the single-largest private employer within Ottonia. It currently serves as one of the largest defense contractors for the Ottonian Federal Defense Service. The company is publicly-traded, but control is maintained by the Aronvulk family, who maintain 45% ownership stock. Other noteworthy owners include the Staalmarker House of Riktun-Sproek, which owns approximately 15% of the company.
Today, VHI remains the single largest employer in North Ottonia, operating across republican borders and serving as the federal government's primary defense contractor, although it does receive heavy competition from OMC and Svaartaron, among others, depending on the project.

Vulksaron Heavy Industries is a Ottonian state enterprise and multinational corporation. Originally created for strategic industrial purposes to fulfill government contracts when private industry was unable or unwilling to provide, Vulksaron has expanded into a massive company whose products are sold globally, especially on the continent of Belisaria.

History

During the Ottonian Civil War, monarchist forces in Staalmark and Onneria siezed Vulksaron facilities for their own purposes; after the war, Vulksaron continued to be operated by the Republican government in the north, while the South Ottonian monarchy incorporated their seized assets as Crown Holdings. Following the Great Ottonian War, a great deal of emphasis was placed on getting Vulksaron's factories back online to support the reconstruction effort. However, conflicts between workers and management installed by the government resulted in widespread work stoppages that helped set the stage for the Ottonian Revolution in the late 1940's.

In the aftermath of the Revolution, Vulksaron found itself with numerous competitors; Svaartaron, once a privately-owned competitor, had reemerged as a worker-owned cooperative and was competing in much of the heavy industrial field, while in the automotive industry Vulksaron found itself competing with the increasingly-robust and largely-independent Ottonian Motor Authority. During the liberalization of the 1970's and 1980's, 67% of Vulksaron's ownership was opened up to public trading, which critics claimed caused a lack of focus in the company's activities and a slip in quality of production, even while OMC and Svaartaron remained privately in their employees' hands.

During the course-correction of the late 1990's/early 2000's, Vulksaron was renamed VHI during a re-nationalization process in which the federal government re-purchased most of the ownership of the company, with 40% of the company's ownership being granted to its employees for profit-sharing purposes.

Current Operations

Today, VHI remains the single largest employer in North Ottonia, operating across republican borders and serving as the federal government's primary defense contractor, although it does receive heavy competition from OMC and Svaartaron, among others, depending on the project.

Divisions

Vulksaron Heavy Industries operates several major divisions which handle the company's diverse business.

Vulksmotor

Vulksaron's automotive division; deals with R&D, manufacture, and maintenance of Vulksaron's automotive product lines. Vulksaron manufactures and sells automobiles under the economy-performance/economy-luxury Vulksmotor marque and the luxury Crown marque.
