The country is a unitary presidential republic and is often characterized as a developing country and a flawed democracy. Zaihan is a founding member of the East Oridian Conference and the Congress of Nations. The country is constitutionally neutral, albeit maintains a Template:Armed Forces of Zaihan.
Etymology
The word "Zaihan" originates from a portmanteau of the Zaihanese words Zài hǎishàng (在海上), meaning "on the sea".

Zaihan is a unitary presidential republic. The functions of government are dictated by the Constitution of Zaihan, and more specifically the Articles on the Function of the Republic. The constitution divides governmental power between the High Court (judicial), National Assembly (legislative) and the National Council (executive). The constitution emphasizes the protection of civil and human rights, the rule of law and the preservation of the constitutional republican system.
