Adelaide Ivers, known mononymously in her musical career as Adelaide is an Aisling signer/songwriter, DJ and actress who is most famous for her appearances in several classic sci-fi television shows and movies, as well as here production of electronic dance music that is commonly featured at nightclubs and music festivals as well as at both chimerical and underground raves
Early life
Adelaide Ivers was born January 21, 1972 in Perros, located just outside of Rucesion. Her mother died during childbirth and her father was addicted to both drugs and alcohol. At the age of 7, she was removed from her father's custody by Aisling Children's Welfare Services agents and placed in a foster home in downtown Rucesion. er foster parents, an elderly couple, reportedly had difficulty keeping the young child under control. In a 2013 interview with StarLine, Adelaide stated that it was "amazing I turned out as well as I have. I have my foster parents hell, and, I feel bad for that. They were kind to me. If there's one thing I regret, its not being kinder to them as a child." Adelaide did make amends to her foster parents before they passed away in 2009.
Adelaide states she spent most of her late youth roaming the streets of Rucesion, "going to parties, getting high and being stupid." She claims she was under the influence of narcotics, specifically lysergic acid diethylamide, when she arrived at an audition being held by Iron Gate Productions in Rucesion. She learned that the audition was to pay 50 leones to all auditions, but that there was a predetermined list of participants. Lying to the receptionist about her identity, Adelaide was able to audition for what turned out to be a small part in Ascendant, long running science fiction television drama. The director and producer were highly compelled by her performance, which Adelaide later stated she thought was enhanced by the effects of the LSD in her system. However, the actual participant arrived for their audition several minutes later, exposing Adelaide's fraud. After a heated debate, Director Eugenio Del Villar decided that her deception wasn't important enough to actually disqualify her. According to Del Villar, Adelaide deception just underlined her creative nature. The actual participant was paid and told to leave, whereas Del Villar refused to pay Adelaide, but did offer her the part.
Career
Adelaide's first acting role came in 1991 when she auditioned under a false name for a role in Ascendant. Her performance impressed Director Eugenio Del Villar enough that he overlooked her deception and offered her a role. The rest of the cast and producers were also very pleased with her performance, enough that the producers demanded that scripts be rewritten to turn her character, a slightly spastic telepath named Bébhinn, into a reoccurring character. She appeared on Ascendant from 1991 until its cancellation in 1999.
In 2001, Adelaide opened a small recording studio and publisher under the name Adelaide SA, intending to use it to launch her musical career. Her first album, released in 2002, was entitled The Darkening was only moderately successful. Critics described it as an "dark fantasy electronica" making heavy user of electronic-based styles and instruments including synthesizers, sequencers and Digital audio applications. Only one song from the album Ravens Breath was popular, remaining within the top ten tracks on the Luas Hot 100 Singles chart for over ten weeks. Following the mediocre success of The Darkening Adelaide allowed Adelaide SA to go out of business.
Raven's Breath was the only music video produced for any song on The Darkening album, and primarily features Adelaide dancing in a somewhat revealing black costume bathed in bright light shifting through dark colors with the song dubbed over the recording. She does not actually preform the song during the video. Some critics panned the video for being extremely sexualized in nature, while others criticized it for its abstract nature. Music Entertainment Television ranked it at 7 in its 25 worst music videos compilation in 2010.
In 2011 she was approached by popular electronica duo Extrañ(o)a and their record label Mirage Records to produce a collaboration piece, as well as a remix of Raven's Breath. Her compilation album with Extrañ(o)a, entitled Crash was generally well received, but its most popular song The Crash of Us remained number on Luas's Hot 100 Singles list for almost 26 weeks uninterrupted, and currently holds the record for longest running number of single. The album itself topped charts at 27 the year it was released. Mirage Records agreed to produce any further musical recordings Adelaide recorded. In addition, Adelaide's Crash was one of the first full albums to be hosted and purchasable on the Banjito music streaming service.
In 2014, continuing her tradition of appearing in science fiction pieces, Adelaide was cast in the reoccurring role of Major Liliana Ashe in the eight season of Nautica. Her character, an officer of Affiliation Naval Intelligence, has to work with the nefarious crew of the Nautica to apprehend a dangerous criminal who has escaped from a penal colony on Gatrore V. Adelaide's role in the series was highly acclaimed and resulted in one of the most viewed seasons in the shows history, reaching a weekly viewing audience of over 4.9 million people. Following the end of her participation in Nautica, she hosted the December 2014 Rave Rucesion festival.
In 2015, she released a third studio album entitled eDancEm comprised entirely of electronic instrumental dance tracks. Though it only entered the top 30 on the Luas's Top 100, it has proven to be extremely popular and EDM dance festivals, nightclubs and rave parties.
She was invited to preform at the 2019 Luas Music Festival, the first time since her debut into music in 2001 she had been asked to preform at the prestigious venue. She played a fur hour long set, including the entirety of the eDancEm album as well as selected works by Extrañ(o)a and other artists. During the four hour set, she played The Crash of Us six times due to popular demand.
Adelaide was cast as herself in the 2022 film Girls Just Want To Have Fun, the story of four young high school woman who are ostrizied by their peers for their musical taste. The story ends with the girls convincing Adelaide to preform at their high school prom. The movie also starred adult entertainer Ciara Canton in her first mainstream role, as well as Aisling actresses Julie Miskell, Neassa Bennett and Kinley Quinn. The movie received mixed reviews from views, and was a marginal success.
Personal life
Adelaide has maintained since 2003 that she will never commit to one partner and that "marriage is silly." She has lived up to her word, having dated multiple people, many of whom were not famous in any way prior to meeting her, throughout her career. She is, however, generally very quiet about her romantic life in an attempting to respect the privacy of her partners. She is openly bisexual, stating in a 2017 interview with Glimmer that being bisexual simply "widened her playing field.". She has stated she has no plans to have children as she believes she would not an acceptable parent after her own childhood tragedies and experiences.
