Commonwealth of Reikland Space Command

The Commonwealth Space Command, commonly called Space Command or the Space Force, is a semi-independent component service of the Commonwealth of Reikland Air Force. It is responsible for the maintenance of the Commonwealth's immense network of satellites and other orbital infrastructure, as well as for the development of new systems to secure space control for the Commonwealth and her allies while denying it to the Commonwealth's enemies.

Mission and History

The Commonwealth Space Command was formed in 2500 to develop rocket and missile technology. Over the years, it expanded its role to include control of military satellites and even some manned missions.

By the 2540s, serious consideration was being given to the idea of an independent space warfare branch, which culminated in the Space Command being made a co-equal branch in 2557. While not fully independent, being considered subordinate to the Air Force, the Space Command has since absorbed all Commonwealth military space-related organizations, including missile defense, early warning, and other commands and programs.

Beginning in 2565, the Space Command initiated the construction of a military space station, named Freedom. The station has been continuously manned since 2567 and is scheduled for completion in 2577. The station currently operates with a crew of 6 but is planned to have a permanent crew of 12. There has been some discussion of the addition of a second hab module to increase the crew to 24 but that has not yet been confirmed.
