The Kingdom of the Saxenders (Middle Saxender: Βασίλειο του Σαξένιδος), also known as the Saxender Kingdom, the Empire of the Saxenders, or simply Saxendia, was the largest barbarian kingdom in Foclaininth. It was ruled by the Saxendish Aggelosian, Prokopisian, and Ædgarian dynasties during the Early Middle Ledonian Ages.

Originally, the core Saxendish territories were close to the Cartgeo River, before Saxendish ruler Socrates the Married wed the only possible heir to the Toleratos throne, Veronica of Toleratos; as such, his son, Minas the Magnanimous (Minas II) inherited the throne to both, and was crowned as the High King of the Saxenders as both nations were consolidated into one, under the name of Saxendia. At its height it had expanded to cover the entirety of Foclaininth. However, upon the death of the last king, Gumbœrht the Stabiliser, the nation was plunged into civil war as his sons fought over the throne, eventually causing the collapse of the nation.

History

Merging of the Saxenders

The unification and stabilisation of the Saxender tribes was a key goal of King Aggelos the Great, the last king of the Pepidish Saxenders and first king of the Saxenders. Upon the end of his military and diplomatic campaign around the tribes, he successfully united the Saxenders under one king, signing the Treaty of Constanapolis in 2872 BL. The Treaty came into full effect in 2869, uniting the separate tribes into a kingdom called Saxendia. Together, they formed a much stronger economy, and an army soon began growing as officials began to be chosen by Aggelos; these officials later grew to be heads of nobel families.

Prokopisian succession: c. 2837–2671 BL

Throughout the late 29th through early 27th centuries BL, Saxendia rose to become the world's dominant military power, with only Ledonia as its rival.

"By 2837, the nation was so bitterly angry against Vassilis the Insufferable that many feared that a major civil war would break out sometime during his reign, causing the downfall of a brief state", historian Cesaire Paternoster wrote in 1983. The overwhelming majority of denizens resented the rule of Vassilis, who is said to have enslaved his own family. Starting as early as 2842, only four years into Vassilis' reign, Prokopis the Stabiliser, the first cousin of Vassilis made petty noble, with a small standing army, led the Prokopisian Rising of 2842, based in Chatrae, with the aim of overthrowing the king. Tradiditonalists quickly showed strong support for the revolution. Poorly organized, the revolt was initially suppressed violently by Vassilis. However, in 2837, Prokopisian forces attacked the capital, Constanapolis, from the rear, where there were less guards, and the forces clashed against each other. Soon, the city had been razed, and Prokopis proclaimed himself king, before having Vassilis beheaded.
