Figlia di Alfonso IV e Laura Martinozzi, sposò Giacomo II Stuart su procura. In seguito al matrimonio divenne duchessa di York. Quando il marito salì sul trono diventò regina d'Inghilterra dal 1685 al 1688. Esiliata da Londra si rifugiò presso la Corte di Luigi XIV e si stabilì in Saint Germain en Laye.
