English: The country's first indigenous Main Battle Tank was built on a licensed design of Vickers MK 1 of UK origin and was introduced in service in the year 1965 .
This main battle tank was extensively used in both 1965 and 1971 Operations in several battles of Karanjkot and Barmer sector and continued to be the mainstay of the Armoured Formations for several years. The tank weighs 39000kg. For enhanced fire power, the tank was equipped with 105 mm L72A gun as the main armament, 12.7 mm Machine Gun and 7.62 mm Machine Gun as secondary armament. |
