List of political parties in the Federal Republic of Brazil

This article is a list of the active political parties in the Imperial Federation of Brazil. The country is a highly factionalized multi-party democracy under a constitutional monarchy. Since the establishment of the 1973 constitution, no party has been able to effectively govern Brazil without the need for a coalition, leading to what political analysts consider to be a system of "coalition parliamentarism". This is due to the fact that parties does not need to be registered to compete in elections and that many provincial parties are represented in the Brazilian parliament.
