Nowa Łãka (lit. 'New Bay'; Weranic: Neuebucht) is a municipality in Ostry, with a population of 675, making it the smallest municipality on the island. It is located just south of the capital of Eriksztadt, on the southern leeward side of the island.
History
Nowa Łãka was founded by Weranic settlers in 1903 under the guise of creating "the ideal Weranic community", and until 1912 barred "those native to the island of Ostry" from purchasing property within its boundaries. The village has maintained its historical heritage, being the only municipality with a Weranic-speaking majority, and hosting the annual Weranic Cultural Festival in October.
Geography
Nowa Łãka comprises 31 km2, making it the second-largest municipality of Ostry. It is connected by the Ostric Highway to Eriksztadt to the north and Wiãcórk to the east.
