Ricardo Padilla (born August 19, 2158) is a Carinansian politician and aviator who is currently serving as the 30th president of Carinansia.

Early life and career

Military service

At the age of 17 years old, Padilla successfully applied for entry to the Hanatakt Military School, and over the next three years trained alongside 8000 other candidates to become one of the country's first extraterrestrial military aviators. The first fighting in outer space took place at the Battle of the Belt between the Aurelian Navy and the Serene Space Force, and resulted in a Carinansian victory. In now declassified government documents, it was revealed that Padilla also made first contact with extraterrestrial beings alongside his unit, initiating highly-classified communication with the interstellar Azlan Empire.

In his predominant role as a military patrol, he also participated in government-sanctioned exploration and colonisation efforts. He was the first person to set foot on the planet of Othora in 2191, and subsequently established the furthest human outpost in the Stellar system until 2219.

With the outbreak of hostilities between Emmeria and Carinansia, and the Koelasian Coalition and Carinansia in the early 23rd century, the first widespread military combat in outer space took place, with the majority of the conflict taking place at least 80km above the ground. Padilla ultimately became one of the country's most decorated outer space pilots, and received various promotions. In 2206, he was promoted to Rear Admiral. Only a year later, he became the de facto head of government of Arcadia, and remained in this position until late 2211.

Presidency (2217-Present)

Padilla's presidency has notably been marked by the global outbreak of hostilities with the Azlan Empire, which recently underwent a leadership change and a transition towards further expansionist imperialism. In the 5 days following the Moyolenolli Incident and Lucent Massacre, he managed to negotiate the formation of a temporary worldwide coalition to combat this incoming extraterrestrial threat. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers were levied following OE78196, which declared a national emergency and mobilised all reserve forces. Thus far, the Azlan Empire has made strong gains in Selenia, Koelasia, ans Alteria, with several air bombing campaigns taking place against Carinansian cities and infrastructure. Due to prior Air Defense investments, they have been mostly repelled.
